What is climate change?

There are, and always have been, background changes to the earth's climate overtime. This has brought the world from being a chunk of lava, to being a floating ice cube, to the hospitable planet it is now.

But the changes that Earth is undergoing now are happening at an unprecedented speed. While, yes, the planet has always changed, the world has never changed as fast as it has in the last 100 years. This is mostly due to human actions such as burning fossil fuels, extreme amounts of waste, and the intensification of our agricultural systems.

It's confusing to differentiate climate change and global warming. Global warming is occurring, and our atmosphere is getting hotter. But climate change is different. It leads to shifting weather patterns, differences in animal migrations, changes to food availability, and a plethora of other consequences. NASA explains the difference well.

There is a 97% consensus among climate scientists that climate change is occurring, and the impacts look to be devastating. These include rising sea levels, increased acidification, decreased habitats for humans and animals, climate refugees, increased droughts or rainy seasons, and an increase in forest fires across the world.

It's a lot to take in, right? That's why I wanted to make this website: so it was clear what was happening, and that action can be taken to combat these changes.

I invite you to take a look around and click on some of the links to find out more. I hope it furthers your knowledge and strikes inspiration to make small changes to combat this issue. Together, we can all make a difference and better the world.
